How Does Heat Treatment for Bed Bugs Work?
Heat treatment for bed bugs is the newest method of bed bug treatment. It does tend to be more expensive than traditional methods as it is time consuming and uses expensive equipment but the results speak for themselves.
It works by heating a room or multiple rooms to 141 degrees and keeping it at that temperature for approximately 4-6 hours. During the process we use high tech thermal imaging cameras to check the room for cold spots. This is vital as the bed bugs will run and try to hide in colder areas to survive the treatment.
Heat treatment is 100% effective because it also kills the nymphs and eggs meaning that the infestation will not return in a few months as it could with traditional chemical treatments.
How Does Heat Treatment Kill the Bed Bugs?
Once the room has reached the required temperature, the bed bugs will leave their nest and try to find somewhere cool to hide. Due to the whole room being heated, they cannot find anywhere and therefore they die due to dehydration.
The treatment also has the same effect on the eggs and nymphs causing them to dry out and die.
If you watch our heat treatment videos, you will see the bed bugs running to try to escape the heat. It really works!
Why are Bed Bugs so Hard to Remove Permanently?
Bed bugs have been around for millions of years and have evolved to survive in harsh environments. They have outlived the dinosaurs, survived the ice age and are still evolving to this day.
Bed bugs have become resistant to many of the active ingredients used in traditional pesticides making them very difficult to kill. They also hide and travel very well meaning they spread very quickly through densely populated areas.
How can I Spot the Signs of Bed Bugs?
If you think you have bed bugs, the first thing to do is follow our guide on checking for bed bugs. This will help you spot the warning signs such as blood spots, bites or clusters of dark spots on your bed frame.
If you don’t spot any of the signs of bed bugs, that doesn’t mean they are not there. Bed bugs are good at hiding and will only come out of their nest when they feel it’s safe, generally at night when you are asleep.
Bed bugs are tiny and can be almost impossible to see them with the naked eye until they are fully grown creatures.
