We recently visited a property in London amid claims of a bed bug infestation. However when we arrived, we were shocked by the severity of the infestation!
The pictures show just how bad a bed bug infestation can get if left untreated. All of this begun from a single bed bug!
In the picture above you can see the bed bugs and their exoskeletons or shed skin. They shed their skin after each feed. The skins look like bed bugs themselves but are usually a translucent or pale brown colour.
Below you can see the stains left on bedding. The blood can either come from a bed bug being squashed or from the host as the bed bug feeds.
Bed bugs often feed multiple times each night, so if you get bitten you will often find a line of bites your body. The bites are usually painless as the bed bug first injects a numbing agent to stop you feeling it and moving – possibly disturbing their feed.
Bites from bed bugs are often clumped together or in a line or zig zag pattern. They will often be itchy the morning after as they swell into red lumps.
